L"Enlèvement d'Europe - La Délivrance de Thesée - L'Abandon d'Ariane (Darius Milhaud
A Hand of Bridge (Samuel Barber)
La Voyante (Henri Sauguet)
The Legend of the Ancient Mariner (Marco Sofianopoulo)

Six musical miniatures, six musical moments of the 20th century, indicative of the trends that prevailed. Three ten minute opéras-minutes by Darius Milhaud form a unity inspired by Greek mythology. Ten minutes is also the duration of the nice Hand of Bridge by Samuel Barber while the Voyante of Henri Sauguet deals, amongst other things, with palmreading, astrology and cardreading. The opera of Hindemith satirizes serious opera and was written for the festival of short plays that were presented at Baden Baden in 1927. The night ends with the opera of the Greek originated composer Marco Sofianopulo, The Legend of the Ancient Mariner (based on the play of Samuel Taylor Coleridge 1772-1834).

Un ballo in maschera (Guiseppe Verdi)
New production in co-operaton with The Athens Concert Hall

The opera is based on a true event: the assassination of Gustav III of Sweden during a masquerade ball. The libretto was unable to overcome the authorities of censorship because they did not approve of the assassination of a European monarch on stage. So the action takes place on far away Boston of the 17th century. The plot combines political schemes and illegal love affairs, but it gives Verdi the opportunity for magnificent music and one of the most passionate love duets that he ever composed. The famous Argentinean Hugo De Ana is the director.
